Safeguarding

Keeping people safe while respecting their rights.

The safety and wellbeing of the people we support is fundamental to everything NUM1 Supported Care does. Everyone has the right to live free from abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination.

What Is Safeguarding?

Protecting a person’s right to live safely.

Safeguarding means protecting a person’s right to live safely and taking appropriate action when there are concerns about abuse, neglect or harm.

Physical abuse Emotional or psychological abuse Sexual abuse Financial or material abuse Neglect Discriminatory abuse Domestic abuse Organisational abuse Modern slavery Self-neglect
Understanding Your Rights

It is okay to speak up.

Tell us if you’re worried

We want the people we support to understand their rights and feel confident about speaking up.

It is okay to say no, to question something you are unhappy about and to tell someone if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Listening to the Person

We will listen.

If someone tells us that they are worried, frightened or believe something has happened to them, we will listen. We will take concerns seriously and respond appropriately.

Safety and Independence

Safety should not unnecessarily restrict your life.

Keeping somebody safe does not mean unnecessarily restricting their life. People should be supported to make choices, develop independence and take appropriate positive risks.

Everyone’s Responsibility

We expect people to speak up.

Everyone working for NUM1 Supported Care has a responsibility to safeguard the people we support. If a member of our team sees, hears or suspects something that could put a person at risk, they are expected to speak up and follow the appropriate safeguarding procedures.

Our Staff

Safeguarding is part of how we work.

Our approach includes values-based recruitment, appropriate checks, induction, training, supervision and continued professional development.

If You Are Worried About Someone

Tell us.

If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of someone supported by NUM1 Supported Care, please contact us.

Immediate Danger

Call 999 in an emergency.

If you believe someone is in immediate danger or a crime is taking place, contact the emergency services by calling 999.

Safeguarding concerns may also need to be reported to the relevant local authority safeguarding service or other appropriate authority.

I feel safe. People listen to me. I know who to talk to if I am worried. My choices and rights are respected. I am supported to live my life.
